On OS front, it comes with almost close to Stock Android Nougat 7.1.2 out of the box. One of the main selling point for Smartron on this device is the massive 5000 mAH battery which it embeds inside. We got an opportunity to review this latest smartphone from Smartron and here are our views and opinions on the same.

Design and Build:

Smartron tPhone-p comes with a premium metal unibody design and the curved edges along with a 2.5D FHD display truly makes this device look like a premium phone and this time around Smartron has really put a lot of effort and thought in coming up with a device with great build quality and premium design at this price range to attract budget and even mid-range consumers would be inclined to purchase this one for the quality it offers. Coming to the aesthetics of the device, on the front there is a 5.2″ HD display and capacitive touch buttons at the bottom for the back, home and menu functionalities. At the right, there is a volume rockers and the power button. The power button comes with an engraving metal finish which is a nice touch to the device. They are placed at the right locations and reach, they have pretty neat tactile feedback also. On top, there is a 3.5 mm audio jack and a noise cancellation mic. ON the left there is a hybrid dual sim slot. At the bottom, there is a micro-USB charging/data port, along side to that is the speaker grills for external audio output. On the back at upper left side corner, there is a 13 MP camera with a single LED flash. .The antenna line runs through the mid of the camera circle towards the corner of the device. There is an Antenna line visible at the bottom side too and the branding of the phone above that. The build quality of the device really good and gives a nice feel to hold it. Also, the device doesn’t feel heavy even though a massive 5000 mAH battery under the hood and company has maintained the slim form factor which is commendable. We are pretty impressed with the build quality and design of Smartron tPhone-p.

The tPhone-p comes with a 5.2″ HD 2.5D Glass which gives a premium look to the device and the quality of the display is good and the touch sensitiveness is great. The viewing angles is great and the content is clearly visible even under bright outdoor conditions. We don’t have much to complain about the display on this device, however Smartron could have looked at having a Full view display when the current market is majorly focused around the displays with no/minimum bezels. And there are certain companies like Infocus, Micromax etc., already has the devices with Full view vision for almost the same range.

Hardware and Performance:

The Octa-core Snapdragon 435 CPU in combination with 505 Adreno GPU and 3 GB RAM makes it a competitive device for the companies offering the smartphones in this price range. The performance on this device is really good and it plays the graphical intensive games with ease even with the graphic settings set to highest threshold. The multi-tasking is good too and thanks to Smartron for not loading the device with bloatware which could’ve caused some slowness to the performance. We didn’t face any slowness or lag during our tests while playing entertainment content or games.  Also, we did not observe any heating issues during prolonged game play on this device. The benchmark test scores also not bad on this device. We got score of 44576 during our benchmark test using Antutu which is not so bad. The call quality, audio output etc., is pretty good too and the finger print sensor also works great and its response is fast and acceptable. Overall, we are pretty happy with the hardware and performance on this device.

Smartron has brought in lot of improvements in camera department after getting lot of heat and negative feedback on their predecessor Smartphones. It comes with a 13 MP / 5 MP front and rear cameras respectively. The camera UI and the features which tPhone-p offers is vast and useful for the folks who wants to bring in some great shots on a smartphone. The quality of the shots in bright light comes great and the pictures taken under low light conditions are also acceptable. Thanks to front flash which helps in clicking some decent selfies in low-light conditions. Camera UI is simplistic yet offers multiple features like Panorama, beautify, Multi-exposure and Time-lapse. Also, it offers HDR, HDR-A features and gives manual shooting mode using which photographers can play around with different settings like ISO, exposure, white balance, Focus and interval. Camera app provides certain standard filters also like Sepia, Mono, Mirror, Fisheye etc., which is certainly an add-on for the folks who love to post variety of pictures on their social media. One can shoot upto 1080p videos using this camera which is quite OK. Overall, we are quite happy with the camera and its functionalities. Check out some pictures clicked using Smartron tPhone-p below.

Software and Features:

Smartron tPhone-p comes with Android Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box and its almost closest to the stock android OS only with certain additions software from Smartron like t-care and t-cloud, also there are short cut links to the forum and t-Store. UI is simplistic and could be customized using any third party launchers and skins on it. Thanks to the t-cloud storage which offers 1000 GB of storage using that one can store any kind of content on the same for free. So, users don’t have to worry about deleting any files or videos or find the storage devices to access their files. The t-care app gives direct access to the customer support team and users can raise their issues concerns by directly calling the customer care executive or chatting with them using the same application.

The star of the device is the massive 5000 mAh battery which the tPhone-p offers and the company is also running massive campaigns around this across their social media channels. And, why don’t they have to? Its indeed a great addition to this device and certainly removes the vows of carrying an additional power-bank or charger all the time. For charging completely from 0 – 100, it takes around 3 to 3.5 hours and the backup which it offers is impressive for more than 48 hours for an heavy user and it would definitely offer more hours for a normal user who doesn’t use it much except basic functionalities. We could get a standby of more than 6 days before it gave up which is pretty impressive. And, on top of this, one can use this device as a charger for other smartphones or devices which needs power via a USB OTG reverse charging technology. As we said, battery is a star of the show and Smarton has done it right by including this capacity battery.

Smartron, for the first time has done everything right in the current competitive smartphone market keeping every minute details in mind like design, build quality, camera etc., Though the predecessor like Smartron SRT phone offers better hardware / specs compared to this device and the current pricing of that device also almost closer to this, the folks who prefer better design and build quality, can go for tPhone-p and the power users who doesn’t really care much about the design and build quality, could still buy Smartron SRT Phone which is also a better performer.
