LeTv which is rebranded as LeEco (Proununced La-Eco) has launched their latest budget smartphone Le 1s which definitively looks as a premium segment smartphone in India on Jan 20th and would be available on ecommerce portal Flipkart via Flash sale on Feb 2nd 2016 at 12:00 PM sharp. Le1s packs a 5.5 inch full HD display, 13MP rear camera with 5MP front camera and a super-fast 64-bit Helio X10 Turbo which is the flagship processor of the year, and 3 GB RAM. The Le1s has dual SIM card slots, 4G connectivity and 32 GB internal storage. Powered by a 3000 mAh battery, the phone has an exclusive technology of charging for 5 minutes for a 3.5 hours talk time. With world’s first mirror-surface fingerprint sensor. And Le1s is priced disruptively at Rs. 10,999/- and consumers who have registered for a flash sale on Feb 2nd, would be getting an additional 10% cash back if they purchase using Axis Bank credit or debit cards. We got an opportunity to play around this device for some days and here is our impressions and review on the device. Design: Le 1s sports a full-metal aircraft grade aluminum unibody makes the phone scratch proof and offers better resistance against the scratches and smudges. The device looks beautiful and premium which etched to perfection from the manufacturer. The device is slim and and bezel-less industrial design makes Le 1s a great choice for business and entertainment. Le 1s comes with a type-C port and fast charging technology which gives a capability of 3.5 hours of talk time by just charging the phone for 5 minutes. The attraction of this phone is the world’s first mirror-surfaced fingerprint scanner which can unlock the phone from any angle within 0.15s with 99.3% accuracy. One can add 5 fingerprints on this device which can be either used to unlock the phone and/or to click the photos. It contains the speaker grills on the bottom of the device which makes the sound audible clearly to entire room. Even with a full metallic body, the device is not slippery at all and gives a good grip in hand. We totally love the design of Le 1s and give full marks to the same. Display: Le 1s comes witha 5.5″ full HD display which shows crisp and clear images on the screen from different viewing angles too. The colors are vivid on the display and watching Full HD movies and playing HD games on this smartphone is a real fun. We absolutely loved watching the videos, playing games on this big display. Hardware and Performance: Le 1s is powered by a super fast 64-bit Helio X10 Turbo processor backed with a 3 GB RAM. The device comes with a 32 GB internal storage and there is no option to expand the storage further using external cards. The device supports dual-sim, one can put in either a micro sim card or a nano sim card with supports LTE. Le 1s also comes with a IR blaster using which an user can control their televisions etc., We tried to operate a old Sony television and it worked perfectly. We didn’t observe slowness while doing multitasking and also while playing HD movies or while playing games like Dead trigger 2 or Kill shot, but we observed a slight jerk movements while playing Asphalt Airborne 8, but game was playable and also while Antutu benchmark app performing the 3D benchmark tests and while rendering 1920×1080 videos. Below is the Antutu benchmark results. Geekbench test scored 5266 in multi-score test and 970 while single-core test. And Vellamo multi-core test results gives the score of 2254 which surpasses the likes of LG G4, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Meizu MX4 etc., We give a thumbs up for the device performance which packs this hardware at this price point and with an excellent design and build quality and not to forget the exceptional fingerprint scanner which works absolutely fine, only downside of the fingerprint scanner is that we can only either unlock the phone or click the picture using the same. I would expect LeEco to build more features around the FPS like locking any application, operating any applications directly from the lock screen using FPS etc., Camera: Le 1s comes with a 13 MP rear shooter which is equipped with blue glass infrared filter and ISOCELL, a technology interprets every single detail back to life and a 5 MP front camera. Camera features include SLO-MO, Panorama, upto 4K video recording facility which is for the first time involved in this budget smartphones, and gives different filters like Mono, Nature, Tonal, warm, Lomo, Cold and Gorgeous. We could click some decent pictures in bright light and in low light conditions. Focusing the objects is real quick in this camera which is just in 0.09 seconds which makes the phone the best choice for sport fans who can capture the finest pictures even in the fast-moving sport games. Check out some sample pictures we shot using Le 1s. Click on them for full resolution images. Battery: Le 1s is charged by a 3000 mAH battery which gives a pretty good backup for the device, we could stay on the screen for complete 4.5 hours and the device could hold up the charge upto 24 hours with moderate usage of mobile calls, connected all the time via a Mobile data or a wi-fi connection. For this budget phone, the battery of this size is really a top add-on and we are pretty much happy with the battery performance. Software and Features: The Le 1s comes with an Android 5.0.2 topped with LeEco’s custom UI called EUI (Eco User Interface). The UI is simplistic and hassle free without an additional app drawer for the applications and access to all the settings and important settings are embedded in a single location called Control center which can be accessed using the menu button on the left side of the device. The top notification screen will only show notifications and one cannot access any settings using the same. It would take a little time for a first time user of this device who might be switching from standard android user interfaces, but once you get used to it in a day or two, the interface makes the life really easy. Le 1s comes with 9 themes to choose from which is pretty good and simplistic. The only downside about the EUI is that we couldn’t auto arrange the icons or sort the app icons alphabetically. I hope LeEco comes up with updates by giving an opportunity or setting to change/sort the app icons as per our wish in their upcoming OTA updates. Price and Verdict: The Le 1S is priced at Rs. 10,999/- which is the perfect and disruptive pricing for Indian market and for the users looking to buy the phones in this range. For the build quality, design and the performance of the device, this price of this device is a best deal.
