Here are our first impressions on this latest flagship device Yunicorn from YU.
Design and Build: At the first look of the device, this one is the most beautiful device which has come out from YU Factory till date with Full Metal Unibody made up using the mix of Aluminum, Magnesium and Manganese. The device has amazing curves etched to perfection. The back of the device has a brushed metal finish which looks awesome and the 2.5D glass makes it look great and premium. Fingerprint scanner adds value to the phone and it works really fast and has more security features too because of the chip level authentication which it does. The volume rocker and power button is located on the right side of the device and its pretty responsive, while a micro USB port placed at the bottom of the device along with a speaker grill and mic. On the left there is a hybrid SIM tray which can accommodate a nano sim card and a Micro SD card. On top of the phone, there is a 3.5 mm audio jack. The device is really easy to hold with its ergonomic form factor. We are pretty much happy about the design and build of the device which looks premium in hand.

Display: The display is perfect fit with 5.5″ size and comes with a Full HD with 440 ppi depth which is pretty clear and colors are vivid on the screen. The color reproduction is great with contrast ratio of 1000:1. The 2.5D glass is a solid addition which gives a nice feel and touch sensitiveness is just perfect. We tried watching some full HD videos on it and its absolutely stunning to watch the same on Yunicorn.
Camera: The Yunicorn has a 13 MP camera which with the limited testing we did, captures some great pictures and details inside that. One can shoot the images with picture-in-picture facility and it has a panaroma feature too. There are some fancy features like Face detection, Gesture shot, Smile shot, Auto scene detection is there. Also, there is a time-lapse feature involved in the camera functionality. There is no slo-motion video shooting option though.  Overall, the camera app has simplistic functionalities and captures some good pictures.

Software and UI: Yunicorn comes with Android Lollipop 5.1 version with a custom UI built by YU called AOS – ‘Android on Steroids’. The UI is almost close to Stock Android and with some additional nifty features like changing the complete UI to Monochrome mode, accessing widgets, wallpapers, settings and music right from the home screen just by pressing it for a second which will pop-up th emenu to access these. Also, YU is trying to bring all access to your daily needs at one single place called AroundYU 2.0 which gives quick access to different requirements of customers like Food places around, shopping, help booking Cab directly, book tickets in bus and flights, check out the PNR status of train tickets, also recharge any mobile network providers directly from here. This will keep improving in coming days and YU is planning to integrate more and more categories in AroundYU. Also, there is a ‘My account’ which is integrated with a payment gateway UDIO using which one can make payments directly to the transactions which they do in the AroundYU functionalities or one can use their own payment via Credit card or any wallet you may have. With AroundYU, YU is trying to create a Eco system where a customer doesn’t have to install 100 different apps to perform different day to day activites and everything is available as one point of contact.

Performance: With the short stint we had with the device, the performance is absolutely lag free and switching between the screens, performing multitasking, playing HD videos etc., was done with ease. Thanks to the powerful octacore processor which backed with 4GB RAM and superbly tuned OS without any bloatware on it.
Overall, we are totally impressed with YU Yunicorn device and its features which it offers. Especially the the AroundYU feature is mind blowing.
We will come up with a detailed review post on this device pretty soon. Stay tuned for the same.
