As promised during the launch of LeEco Superphones like LeMax and Le 1s in January this year that LeEco will bring in their entertaiment content plan, LeEco has kept the same and launched a new Superphone touted as Le 1s Eco on May 9th 2016 which exclusively includes the Content ranging from Movies to Live shows, Television to Unlimited music content on it. LeEco has partnership with Eros and YuppTV for providing video content while it has tied up with Hungama for providing audio content through their own platforms called Levidi, LIVE and LeMusic respectively. These content is premium and exclusive to Le 1s Eco consumers starting May 24th with access to more than 2000+ movies , 100+ live TV channels, live streaming of concerts from all over the world and more than 3.5 Million songs. Along with this, the members will get a massive 5 TB cloud storage space for their personal use. These content would be made available for all the existing Le 1s and Le Max customers too via OTA update starting May 24th.
Le 1s Eco (Model No. Letv X509) is the first Made for India Smartphone which comprises the exact same configuration of Le 1s which is a device with 5.5″ with Full HD resolution, powered by a Helio X10 Turbo processor with 8 cores, backed with a 3GB RAM and internal storage of 32 GB. The Le 1s Eco comes with a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. Also, Le 1s Eco has the world’s fastest fingerprint recognition technology with world’s first mirror-surfaced fingerprint scanner and the device also equips a IR blaster which could be used to control different Television sets. The only change in configuration of Le 1s Eco compared to Le 1s is that this CPU frequency is under-clocked to 1.8 GHz while Le 1s has the CPU frequency of 2.2 GHz. Not sure what is the reasoning behind this and why this was done on Le 1s Eco. Apart from that, every other configuration, build quality, design, looks etc., is the exact replica of Le 1s.
Le 1s Eco was launched at an introductory price of Rs. 9999/- over which customers can avail additional 10% cashback offer on all HDFC debit and credit cards and the flash sale was held on May 12 2016 all the available phones are sold out already. The introductory price was only for the flash sale organized on May 12th 2016 which also included a LeEco membership program worth Rs. 4900/- absolutely free. We got an opportunity to review this device and here are our first impressions on the same. We will come up with a detailed review post trying out the Supertainment content and ecosystem which will be made available on May 24th this month.
Design and Build: The Le 1s Eco is made of the full-metal aircraft grade aluminum unibody which makes the phone scratch proof. The design is beautiful and looks premium with its fully metal unibody which is a sure head turner. The edges are etched to perfection and one cannot believe that this device is priced at such a low price in this competitive market like India. The build quality of the device is exceptional and features like finger print scanner, USB C type charging port makes it a great add on for the device.
Hardware and Performance: The Octacore Helio X10 turbo processor makes sure the performance is lag free and gives seamless experience to the consumers. Device comes with a fixed 32 GB inernal storage and we cannot add on additional storage via micro SD . Thanks to the 5 TB cloud space which is useful in this scenario where one don’t have to worry about the space for their content provided the customer has a super speed internet connection also to download or upload their content to cloud space. Performance wise I don’t see any issues and the EUI which runs based on Android Lollipop runs absolutely fine. The fingerprint sensor works perfectly when tried to unlock from different angles and as per claims from LeEco the fingerprint sensor has 99.3% accuracy.
Supertainment content: Right now the device comes with a dedicated live button in the app drawer which loads the live content from YuppTV giving access to different language Television content, sports and news channels. The LeVidi app curates the content from different video sources for us and its neatly classified into different categories like Music, Sports, Gaming, Technology, Entertainment, Movies & Trailers etc., which makes easy for the users to access their favorite video content accordingly. Also, there is a LeView which again lists out the best videos from the internet and that also classified neatly category-wise. YuppTV is fine which has around 100 TV channels in the list of different languages, but the EROS has very limited latest movie collection and handful of blockbuster collections. It has more than 2000+ movie collections though in different categories. Eros still not integrated in LeEco system though, I tried the app EROSNOW, but I assume it would be the same set of content which would be made available via LeEco’s dedicated app on May 24th and above. I am not sure if LeEco has any plans to tie up with more and more distribution houses, but it would be definitely interesting and more entertaining if they partner with many more distributions in India.
The LeEco Eco system is definitely here to stay for long time just like they have conquered the space in Mainland China, Hongkong and US with the Eco System and content. LeEco knows that just selling and forgetting the device doesn’t cut the market, but they need their consumers to stay in constant touch with their eco system by providing excellent content and their different services. Of course, consumers who wants to enjoy all these entertainment, content and eco system must have a high speed internet connection at their homes or offices and thanks to the competition among the Internet service providers in India, there are already many providers who are providing fast internet at cheap prices and upcoming of big players like Reliance Jio, it makes it more competitive market and users has to worry less about the internet speed or expenses.
