We got an opportunity to play around this device for a week or so and here are our impressions and review of this device Honor Holly2Plus.
Design: Holly2Plus design is simplistic and though it houses a 5″ display, device doesn’t look big and fits in hand perfectly. The device is encased in a slick frame with only 6.5 mm thickness and the phone is crafted with non-conductive vacuum metalization to give it a metallic look. The rear panel is made up of 5176 microcosmic planes which when seen under different light conditions produce different textures. The textured finish gives a very good look to the back of the devies and even it doesn’t slip from the hand. The curved corners looks perfect and the device doesn’t look bulk even with a 4000 mAH battery inside that. Battery is not removable, though we can pull out the back cover and can replace with different custom back covers which could be available in market. All the buttons are placed at right spots and easily reachable even while operating in one hand and the device weighs 160 grams. We are quite satisfied with the design of the device and as per us we can give a decent 7.5 points out of 10.
Hardware and Performance: The device is powered by a Mediatek MT6735P quadcore 64-bit processor clocked at 1.3 GHz and backed with a 2 GB RAM. The processing speed is quite ok and we didn’t observe much slowness while operating the multiple applications at a time and while running around 20 applications in background. And still there was around 500 MB avaialble memory for user. The device performed decently and while watching HD movies also, we didn’t face any lag or jerky movements. We could play some HD games like Asphalt 8 and the processor handled it well. There are no heating issues observed whatsover while playing games or watching movies for long hours. The call quality is good and we didn’t observe any network issues on the device even indoors. Coming to the audio output, the output is really loud and audible clearly. The Antutu benchmark gave the score of 31540 which is less when compared with the devices like Lenovo K3 Note, Le Eco Le 1S or Vivo X5 Pro. Overall performance-wise, this device is a decent performer and we give 6 points out of 10.
Camera: The Holly2 Plus comes with a 13 MP rear shooter and a 5 MP front camera. The pictures taken in the bright light comes very good and even some low light pictures are decent enough. Front camera produces good selfies in bright light and with beautification features we can improve the quality a little more and make some nice selfies for sharing. The camera app is faster and can click pictures without any lag or waiting, it takes only a 0.8 seconds for clicking a picture. The camera has some pretty decent features like Watermark using which one can apply some funny watermarks to their pictures like their current location, time, some witty remarks, names etc., to the pictures. There are some pretty good filters available in camera app using which one can click some creative pictures. We are quite happy with the camera performance and the pictures which the device shot. We give a decent 7.5 points out of 10 for the camera.
Battery: The star of the device is the battery backup which it offers via a 4000 mAH. With Holly2 Plus in hand and with the full charge in it, one don’t have to worry about carrying an additional charger or a power bank when they are on travel. The battery gave a decent 6 hours plus Screen on time and could stay on the battery for 6 days on a single charge while the device was on network and still had 15% juice in it. Check out the screenshots below. With inbuilt features like SmartPower 3.0 in Holly2 Plus, one can go to the extra distance by saving over 30% of energy. And not to forget the reverse charging feature using which one can charge other phones using a OTG cable or a connector is a big plus point on this device. It took 3 hours for fully charging the battery using a 5V – 2A output charger which is provided in the box. We totally liked the battery performance and we give 10 out of 10.
Software and Features: The Holly2 Plus comes with Android 5.1.1 topped with their custom UI called EMUI version 3.1. The UI is really good and simplistic on Holly2 Plus and offers lot of features to the users. Also comes with lot of themes in their store which users can download for free to try out different kind of icons and backgrounds. The UI comes with some very good animations for clock and many other applications. The notification menu is pretty decent by providing access to the shortcuts and also one can edit the switches and align them as per their wish. The features like Protected apps, data traffic management, shake to change the wallpaper and shake to auto arrange icons are innovative and good to have featured in the smartphones of today. Home screen gives two options, standard and simple. The Standard gives lot of features for advanced users and the simple one has some important and often used applications like contacts, phone, messaging, browsing, Music, gallery etc., with Big icons for quick access to elderly users and novice users. With features like power saving, one can optimize the usage of the device to the maximum extent and save power. Check out the full walkover of the Emotion UI (EMUI) on Honor Holly2 Plus in the video which we have created using screen recorder software. We have covered almost all the features and functionalities which EMUI offers in this video. We are sorry for not adding the voice to the video. We give a decent 8 out of 10 for the software and features which the device offers.
Price: The device is priced at Rs. 8499/- which we think is aptly priced for the device of this stature and we think its totally worth it for investing this much for the features and hardware which it offers.
Verdict: Huawei Honor Holly2 Plus fares good from all angles and lot of pros and little cons. We were quite happy with the performance and the features which it offered. On an average we can give 7.5 points out of 10 for this device.
