Summary: Redmi Note and Micromax Yu are similar to each other when it comes to price but the difference comes to limelight from the experience point of view.

Yu is the latest company to launch its debut smartphone in the Indian market for Rs. 9000. The device runs on Cyanogen OS 11 and is the cheapest LTE handset in India. The device has been enjoying the tag of cheapest Android phone with 4G support.
While Xiaomi entered India in July, 2014 the company has not faced any issues yet. The device is the competitor to Redmi Note. Here is the thorough comparison between Yu and Xiaomi devices in terms of specs and features.

Both Yu and Redmi Note features a 5.5” IPS display with same 720p resolution. The screen of both devices is protected by Corning Glass 3 that makes the device scratch-resistant.
Yu weighs 155 grams and measures 8.5mm while Redmi weighs 199 grams making itself to the best of phablet. It measures 9.5mm.

Operating System

Software is the major difference between these devices. Yu is powered by CyanogenMod 11 based on Android KitKat while Redmi is powered by MiUI 5 that is based on Jelly Bean. Both OS gives smooth performance.
Cyanogen seems to be closer to stock user interface and looks sleek. While MiUI feels more efficient on Xiaomi than to Yu.


Both Xiaomi and Yu have 13MP rear cameras and 5MP front cameras. Redmi’s camera is better when it is about performance. Yu also gives better performance but we might consider Yu’s camera feature better.
The Yu version is powered by MediaTek processor. On paper, you can say that Yu is powerful than Redmi Note. Redmi comprises of Snapdragon 400 processor running at 1.6GHz.
While Yu is supported by Snapdragon 615 at 1.5GHz. 


Both handsets have 2GB memory, while Yu has more internal storage with 16GB than to 8GB of Redmi.
Yu has a smaller battery of 2500mAh while Redmi has 3200mAh battery. Both devices support 4G.

Final Words

Overall, Redmi is a decent performer below Rs. 10000. Yu is cheaper in cost than Redmi.The device is not much, but we can advise you to go for Micromax as carries the brand name. making a better value for your money.
